iHoverboard vs iScooter: two German-market e-mobility shops, compared on what they publish
Returns, delivery, warranty and deals read from both shops’ own pages, and one clause in a 30-day return promise that matters.
Side by side
| Criterion | iHoverboard | iScooter |
|---|---|---|
| Shipping & Returns | 4.24 of 5 checks passedWhat we read30-day return promise, but its policy refuses promotional items (Angebotsartikel) and does not say which sale-priced products count, so we cannot confirm it applies to what you buy. The banner promises free returns (“30 Tage kostenlose Rücksendung”); the policy text does not say who pays. No fees are listed. Free delivery in Germany, 1 to 3 working days from stock and 3 to 7 from other EU warehouses. | 2.62 of 5 checks passedWhat we read14-day returns. On a change of mind you pay return postage, and the cost of a label we send is deducted from your refund; a used item can get a partial refund. Returns related to road certification (for example a German ABE) count as change of mind. Free shipping to the listed EU countries and mainland UK; 3 to 9 working days overall. |
| Service | 3.02 of 4 checks passed, 1 not readWhat we read12-month warranty on the main product; battery, motor, controller and some other parts 6 months, brakes and solid tyres 3. Claims go to support with the order number and photo or video. A delivery address can be changed within 24 hours (5% fee on cancellation). The warranty page says 12 months in its text and “24 Monate” in an icon. Fitting or buying help: not assessed. | 3.02 of 4 checks passed, 1 not readWhat we readThe banner says “Free 1 Year Warranty”, but the warranty page covers motor, battery and controller for 6 months and lights, brakes and accelerator for 3 months; tyres and appearance parts are not covered. A claim goes by email with photos and the order number; support says it usually replies within one business day. An order can be cancelled before it ships without a fee. Fitting or buying help: not assessed. |
| Value | 4.03 of 4 checks passed, 1 not readWhat we readH8 hoverboard €178.99 against €309.99 (about 42% off); 8 live offers on our store page; regular and sale prices shown; end dates not shown (“only for a short time”). Whether a sign-up, threshold or subscription offer exists was unclear from the pages we read. | 4.24 of 5 checks passedWhat we readi12 €329 against €479 (about 31% off); 8 live offers on our store page, including an 8% student discount and a code for €25 off. The shop banner reads “Summer Sale! 30% OFF!” with no dates, while our listing shows a Pre-Black-Friday sale of up to 60%. |
| Quality | Not ratedNot rated. Hoverboards may only be used on private land in Germany. Battery, motor and controller are covered for 6 months. A UK safety report concerned a different consignment of an iHoverboard-branded model (H8Pro); it is not a recall of anything sold in Germany. | Not ratedNot rated. German road approval (ABE) appears only in the names of some models (E9T Max, V5Pro); none of the four products we saw on the homepage shows it. |
| Overall desk score | 3.7 | 3.3 |
Desk scores come from checklists read off each store’s own pages, not from hands-on use. “Not read” means we could not see the page that would say, which is not the same as failing. An overall and a winner appear only when both sides have all three criteria rated; a gap under 0.3 is called a tie. How desk scores work.
This is a research-based comparison. We read both shops' own pages, including their return, shipping and warranty policies, on 26 and 27 October 2026. We have not bought from either shop or ridden either product. Our scores are checklist-based "desk scores" and say how much we could actually read; see how we score.
Two German-market shops sell electric scooters and e-bikes at steep discounts, and one of them also sells hoverboards. Both show sale prices, both have plenty of live offers, and both would like you to read the headline and stop. We read the policy pages instead.
One caveat about the comparison itself. A UK site run under the iScooter name lists iHoverboard-branded hoverboards for sale, and neither shop says whether it owns the other. We could not establish that, so we compare them as shops, not as independent manufacturers.
What each one sells#
iHoverboard lists hoverboards (H1, H2 and H8 models and a seat attachment), adult and children's e-scooters, e-bikes, walking pads and accessories such as children's helmets.
iScooter lists e-scooters (commuter, off-road, single and dual motor, children's and mobility models) and e-bikes. It showed no hoverboards on the page we read.
Before you compare prices: what you may ride where#
Two facts decide whether either shop suits you, and neither is on a price tag. In Germany hoverboards are not allowed on public roads, cycle paths or pavements, so they are for private land only. Our German hoverboard guide explains why. E-scooters on public roads need an approval (an ABE) and insurance. iHoverboard markets two scooters "with road approval" at €218 and €298 but does not say which approval applies. iScooter's German approval (ABE) appears only in the names of some models (the E9T Max and V5Pro), and none of the four products on its homepage shows it. Ask any seller for the approval number before you pay.
Returns and delivery#
| iHoverboard | iScooter | |
|---|---|---|
| Return window | 30 days promised, plus the 14-day legal right for EU orders | 14 days |
| Change-of-mind return postage | Banner promises free returns; the policy text does not say who pays | You pay; the cost of a label we send is deducted from your refund |
| Fees or deductions | None listed | Partial refund possible for used items; original shipping not refunded |
| Delivery | Free in Germany, 1 to 3 working days from stock, 3 to 7 from other EU warehouses | Free to listed EU countries and mainland UK, 3 to 9 working days |
| Notable exclusion | Promotional items ("Angebotsartikel") cannot be returned | Returns tied to road certification count as change of mind |
The clause that matters most is iHoverboard's. Its policy says it cannot accept returns of promotional items, and most of its products show a sale price (the H8 hoverboard at €178.99 against €309.99, about 42% off). The policy does not say which sale-priced products count as "promotional". Before you buy a discounted item, ask in writing whether it is returnable. Your legal right to withdraw from a distance purchase within 14 days applies in the EU regardless (the policy itself mentions it), but a 30-day promise is only worth what it covers. Our guide to your rights when an online order goes wrong covers the basics.
Warranty: both fall short of their headline#
| iHoverboard | iScooter | |
|---|---|---|
| Headline | 12 months | "Free 1 Year Warranty" |
| Motor, battery, controller | 6 months | 6 months |
| Lights, brakes | Brakes and solid tyres 3 months | 3 months |
| Tyres | Air tyres excluded | Not covered |
| Contradiction on its own pages | Text says 12 months, an icon says "24 Monate" | Banner says one year; the warranty page gives 6 and 3 months |
The parts most likely to fail on any electric vehicle, the battery and the motor, are covered for six months at both shops. In Germany the seller is also generally liable for defects for two years from delivery under the statutory warranty, which is separate from the manufacturer's guarantee, so a short shop warranty does not remove that right. It is worth knowing before you accept "six months" as the end of the story.
The deals#
Each shop's deal cards appear below when we have live offers listed for it. iScooter's shop shows regular prices next to sale prices on its homepage: the i12 at €329 against €479, the F3 at €349 against €519 and the iX5S at €479 against €689, roughly 30 to 33% off. Its homepage banner reads "Summer Sale! 30% OFF!" with no dates, so check what applies on the day. iHoverboard's sale prices carry no end dates either ("only for a short time"). Our guide to checking a sale price is real shows how to test either.
How they scored#
On the desk score, iHoverboard comes out at 3.7 and iScooter at 3.3. The gap comes almost entirely from returns and delivery, where iHoverboard publishes more and promises more. Service scores are identical (3.0) because both contradict themselves on warranty. iScooter edges Value because it shows more on its homepage. Quality is not rated for either: we have not tested them.
Our take#
For a child's hoverboard on private land, iHoverboard's written terms are the better of the two, as long as you confirm in writing that a sale-priced item is returnable. For an e-scooter you intend to ride on public roads, neither shop makes the approval easy to find, so the deciding factor is whether the seller will give you the ABE number before you pay. In both cases, treat the six-month motor and battery cover as the real warranty and the statutory two years as your backstop.
