A bra size is two numbers pretending to be one fact: a fitting guide, and what Bravissimo is for
Band, cup and sister sizes explained, five signs a bra is wrong, and where Bravissimo's fitting-first range and current discounts fit in. A research-based write-up.
This is a research-based write-up. We read Bravissimo's site and its deal listing on 26 October 2026. We have not bought from the store or been fitted by it, so nothing here is a verdict on its fitting service. It is a guide to bra fit, and a look at what the store sells and what is discounted.
A bra size looks like one fact. It is two numbers wearing one label: a band measurement and a cup letter, and the cup letter only means something relative to the band. That is why a size that "should" fit often does not, and why so much advice to "just measure yourself" ends badly.
How the size actually works#
The band number (30, 32, 34 and so on) is the underband that does most of the supporting. The cup letter is not a fixed volume. It is the difference between your band and your bust measurement, so a 34D and a 38D hold different amounts.
That is also where sister sizes come from. Go down one band size and up one cup letter and you keep roughly the same cup volume: a 34D, a 32DD and a 36C are close relatives. This matters in practice. If the cup fits but the band rides up your back, you probably want a smaller band and a bigger cup, not a bigger bra.
One more trap: letters do not travel well between countries. UK sizing runs D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, J, JJ, K, with double letters. Other markets skip or rename some of them, so a US size is not a UK size with a different label. Always use the brand's own chart.
Five signs a bra is wrong#
The band rides up at the back. The band does most of the work, so a band that is too loose sends the strain to your shoulders.
The centre gore does not sit flat against your breastbone. If it floats away from you, the cups are too small.
The cups wrinkle or gape (too big), or you spill over the top or sides (too small).
The straps dig in. Straps should be adjusting, not carrying.
The wire rests on breast tissue instead of around it.
A five-minute check at home#
Fasten a new bra on the loosest hook, because elastic stretches and you will move in as it ages. Lean forward and settle your breasts into the cups, then stand up straight. The band should be snug and level. Slide two fingers under it: it should move, but not flap. Check the gore, then the cups, then the straps, in that order.
Rotate bras rather than wearing the same one every day, wash according to the label, and refit after big changes such as weight loss or gain, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Many fitters suggest checking your size at least once a year.
Why a specialist exists#
High-street ranges thin out above a D cup, so fuller sizes often end up in a few styles and colours. That is the gap Bravissimo is built around. Its range pages show examples that run from D to HH cups (Freya Essentially Smooth) and DD to L (its own Lacey bra), alongside brands such as Freya, Panache, Fantasie, Elomi, Curvy Kate, Gossard, Speedo and Shock Absorber. At the time we looked, the two bras we saw were £39 and £40.
The store also links to fitting pages ("Get fitted", "Find my fit") and fitting guides. In-person fittings in its shops are part of the pitch. We could not see a list of shop locations or confirm virtual fittings on the pages we read, so check those details on the site before you plan a visit.
Sports bras and swimwear#
If you fix only one bra, fix the sports bra. Impact support is where a poor fit is most noticeable, and an encapsulated sports bra (cups that hold each breast separately) is a different design from a compression bra. Shock Absorber is among the brands Bravissimo lists.

Bikini tops are bras in different clothes. They need the same band-and-cup logic, plus fabric that does not drag when wet. If you are between sizes, try the sister size.

Storewide sale up to 70% off and a clearance sale up to 30% off
Two notes. First, "up to 70% off" describes the best-reduced items, so check the item you want. Second, a discount is not a reason to buy a bra that does not fit. We could not see Bravissimo's returns terms on the pages we read, and underwear and swimwear often carry hygiene restrictions on returns, so read the policy before you pay. Our guide to online refund rights covers the basics.

Our take#
Bra fit is a craft problem more than a shopping problem, and a store that treats fitting as part of the product is solving the right one. What we could not check is how good the fitting service actually is, and what happens when you return something. Treat the deals as a reason to try, not as proof the store is right for you.
